Design/Build Process

Your Mission; Our Mission

Our design/build approach allows Memphis Audio to serve as a single source for design, engineering, supply, installation, training, and service. We act as an information broker by coupling the Mission of your organization with our technical knowledge base to deliver the best results.

Five Phases

The five phases of any major project are: Concept, Schematic, Design Development, Construction Documents, and Build-Out.

Our role as the Technical Design/Build Team is to provide:

  • Design/Engineering coordination with the Architect and Engineers during the Design Development phase

  • Coordination with the General and Sub-Contractors during the Build-Out (Installation) Phase

  • Training during and after installation, plus Service and Support.

Design/Engineering

Our Technical Design/Build Team begins interfacing with the architect and other engineers during the Design Development phase while the architect is still working on the project's drawings. This not only ensures efficient technical support of the ministry, but also reduces design time and eliminates costly drawing changes.

In addition to each technical area’s specific design criteria, certain quality control measures impact all designs:

  • Master Plan approach — ensures system infrastructure supports current and anticipated ministry needs.

  • Engineering Discipline — specifically trained Memphis Audio engineers design each technical discipline.

  • Pre-determined Budgets — provides financial forecasting with flexibility to implement or substitute advanced technology when needed.

  • Tailored Equipment Selection — equipment choices and system designs specifically for your needs by top-line manufacturers.

Coordination

Various aspects of the building will affect the technical systems — physical space requirements, cooling and ventilation, power, A/V conduit and raceways, and aesthetics.

A designated Memphis Audio Project Manager will oversee the entire process, including:

  • Inter-coordination between each technical discipline

  • Working with the Architect and Owner in proper space planning

  • Specifying maximum noise-floors (N.C. Rating) and equipment cooling needs to Mechanical Engineer

  • Detailing power requirements to the electrical Engineer

  • Creation and distribution of Technical Drawings, with the Construction Drawings outlining the conduit and J-box infrastructure

  • On-site coordination with the General Contractor, Electrical Contractor, Owner, and others

Installation

No one understands the System Design better than the Designer. Successful installation of the technical systems requires that the design be implemented properly, on schedule and in budget. Memphis Audio uses its full-time crew of skilled, creative installers and project managers, under the oversight of the design engineers, to tackle the various issues associated with installation, time-line coordination, and field engineering.

The installation phase includes:

  • Development of a working schedule to coordinate all related trades, general contractor, and owner

  • Revising the schedule as needed based on job-site progress

  • Utilization of installation-related engineering drawings

  • Testing, labeling, and dressing of all equipment and wiring

  • Calibration, dial-in, programming, etc. by trained and experienced personnel using sophisticated test equipment and computer analysis.

Training

You want the maximum performance from your system, and you want it to work for you – not vice versa. This is where proper training is critical. Memphis Audio tailors our training for the current level of expertise of the end-user from basic to advanced applications.

Training includes:

  • Familiarization with the system’s design through drawings and walk-through

  • Fundamentals of standard operating procedures

  • How to reset the system to its basic settings

  • Understanding equipment features and functions

  • Use of the equipment in its environment

  • On-site presence of Memphis Audio for rehearsal and first public use

  • Regular reviews and advanced training during first year; additional on-site support as needed

Service/Support

With proper design, coordination, installation, and training, there’s less need for service. However, as a factory-trained service center many major manufacturers, Memphis Audio:

  • Provides loaner equipment. Both new and/or loaner can be available overnight

  • Provides a nationwide network of contacts for last-minute troubleshooting

  • Coordinates repairs directly with manufacturers

We want to be your sound, lighting, video, and acoustics team.
